Established in 1984, the Statewide Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) Network in Georgia has endeavored to improve the health of the state’s citizens by developing an appropriately trained and equitably dispersed health care workforce. Georgia has long faced a severe shortage of health care workers in rural and underserved areas, especially in primary care fields. The AHEC Network is a complex, multi-disciplinary effort which responds to the problem of supply and distribution of health professionals in rural and underserved areas of the state.en_US
