The Division of Continuing Education, within the institutional and university policy, is the only authorized provider of Continuing Education Units, Continuing Dental Education, and Continuing Medical Education. This policy covers all aspects of planning and implementation of continuing education activities.

      5.07 Continuing Education: Commercial Support Policy: The Division of Continuing Education makes all decisions regarding the disposition and disbursement of the commercial support funds and inkind support received for Continuing Education activities. Georgia Health Sciences University Continuing Education shall not be required by a commercial interest to accept advice or services concerning teachers, authors, participants, or other education matters, including activity content and format, from a commercial interest as conditions of contributing funds or services.

      5.05 Continuing Education: Conflict of Interest Policy: The Division of Continuing Education at Georgia Health Sciences University must control the content and presentations of all Continuing Education activities. All educational activities must be free of commercial bias for or against any product, and the conference-related educational materials, including a speaker's presentation, must not advance the proprietary interests of a financial supporter or proprietary company. This policy provides definitions and instances of potential conflicts of interest and describes the controls in place to prevent such conflicts of interest.

      5.06 Continuing Education: Content Validation Policy: The Division of Continuing Education and Georgia Health Sciences University faculty are responsible for ensuring that the educational design and production of presentations and reference materials are in compliance with the appropriate professional disciplines and accrediting agencies. All clinical recommendations involving clinical allied health sciences, dentistry, nursing, or medicine in a Continuing Education activity must be based on evidence that is accepted vvithin the respective profession as adequate justification for their indications and contraindications in the care of patients. All scientific research referred to, reported, or used in a Continuing Education activity in support or justification of a patient care recommendation must conform to the generally accepted standards of experimental design, data collection, and analysis. All recommendations, treatment or manners of practice discussed in a Continuing Education activity must be vvithin the definition of Continuing Education and must not be known (a) to have risks or dangers that outweigh the benefits or (b) to be ineffective in the treatment of patients.

      5.14 Continuing Education: Credit Card Protection Policy: All credit card transactions for Continuing Education are conducted over a secure socket layer connection. Credit card information is not stored or re-used in any manner. Only authorized personnel with assigned user names and passv.ords can access credit card information and solely for the purpose of performing adjustments or refunds at the customer's request.

      5.02 Continuing Education: Educational Planning Policy: All activities sponsored by the Division of Continuing Education must adhere to the planning process prescribed by the appropriate accrediting body and include needs assessment, objectives and evaluation. Needs assessment data are required and collected for all planned educational activities in order to implement meaningful, quality educational content in accordance wth the mission and purpose of the institution. All educational activities must identify the purpose and objectives that target improved patient care. The purpose and objectives must be available to the participant prior to the beginning of the educational activity. All educational activities must be evaluated by the participants and by the Division of Continuing Education to determine the effectiveness in meeting the identified educational need to ensure improvement in participant knowledge and patient care. The Division of Continuing Education evaluates its continuing education program quarterly and annually.

      5.09 Continuing Education: Enduring Materials Policy: Enduring materials, defined as printed, recorded, or computer-assisted instruction used over time, are subject to the same policies and procedures as live Continuing Education activities. Additional information or materials, as outlined in this policy, must be vvith the additional requirements as outlined in this policy of the follovving requirements that must be delivered to participants prior to their engaging in the learning activity.

The Division of Continuing Education uses a cost recovery financial model, as described in this policy, to support its educational activities.

      7.04 Contract Renewal Policy: In accordance with Board of Regents policy, the President of Georgia Health Sciences University, or his/her designee, will notify in writing all full-time non-tenured faculty 'Who have been awarded academic rank and are employed under written contract 'Whether or not an employment contract for the succeeding year will be offered to them according to the timeline contained in this policy.

      4.12 Course Load Policy: The normal course load at Georgia Health Sciences University varies with the degree program. Students may be required to register for a course load less than the normal load if this action is determined to be advisable in light of the student's academic standing or for other reasons. An undergraduate student who in any semester registers for less than 12 semester credit hours and a graduate studies or professional student who registers for less than 9 semester credit hours is considered a part-time student; a student who registers for more hours than these is considered a full-time student. No student in the Colleges of Allied Health Sciences, Graduate Studies, or Nursing may register without special approval from his/her Dean for any hours above the norm (including audit courses) in any given academic semester. The College of Medicine does not admit students on a part-time basis. Students may, with appropriate approval, carry lesser academic loads than other students because of academic or scheduling problems. However, these students are considered to be committed to full-time pursuit of the Doctor of Medicine degree.All Doctor of Dental Medicine degree-seeking students are considered to be full-time and are expected to devote full-time efforts to completing requirements for the degree. Most students complete the program in four calendar years and take a uniform semester course schedule. Other students may, with special permission, complete the degree program in more than four years and take a variable semester course load designed to meet their academic or scheduling circumstances. The only exception to this rule is for part-time College of Dentistry faculty vvho may be allowed to register as part-time students in order to complete the DMD degree. A limited number of special students, vvho are not degree-seeking, may also be permitted to enroll part-time

      4.09 Course Numbering System Policy: Georgia Health Sciences l.kliversity offers courses numbered from 1000 to 4999 to students at the undergraduate level. Courses in the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry are numbered from 5000 to 5990. Graduate courses are numbered from 6000 to 9999. Certain courses are offered to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students jointly. Such courses are numbered appropriately for each class and degree program.
    • Criminal Conviction Disclosure Policy for Students

      6.11 Criminal Conviction Disclosure Policy for Students: Students are required, on a continuing basis, to disclose in writing to their Dean or the Director of Campus Life Services any criminal convictions that occur since the disclosure they completed wth their application for admission. Criminal convictions include adjudication of guilt by a jury or judge for any crime. Minor traffic offenses are not included, but "no contest" pleas, first-offender treatment, convictions under appeal, and convictions that have been pardoned are included. Disclosures should be made wthin 30 days of conviction

      2.13 Curriculum Changes Policy: This policy facilitates the institutional approval process for changes to the curriculum by any college or department at Georgia Health Sciences University. Curriculum changes originate in the respective department or college, and are submitted via the proper form to the Vice President for Instruction and Enrollment Management & Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, who will verify that the request form is complete and all required documentation is attached. The Director of Business Operations of the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost will compile the fiscal considerations of the proposed curriculum change. This information will all be submitted to the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost for approval. Following approval by the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Office of the Registrar will complete the official curriculum revision and notify the respective colleges.

      6.02 Damage to Residence Hall or Loss of Personal Property Policy: Georgia Health Sciences Uniiversity is not responsible for any property damaged or destroyed while a student occupies an apartment or room in a Georgia Health Sciences University residence hall facility except in a case where the Georgia Health Sciences University is found negligent. Students living in Georgia Health Sciences University residence halls are not permitted to make any permanent changes to an apartment or room in the residence hall. This includes, but is not limited to, installation of or tampering with ceiling fans, light fixtures, shelves, partitions, lofts, W'indow coverings, wallpaper, painting, plumbing, and heating.

      4.06 Dean's List Policy: Georgia Health Sciences University recognizes the superior academic performance of undergraduates and College of Dentistry students by awarding them Dean's List designation for a given semester according to the conditions set forth in this policy. To qualify for the Dean's List, an undergraduate student must be enrolled for 12 or more hours of graded academic work in a semester and have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.50 for that semester. for students with an incomplete grade, Dean's List computations will not be made until a grade is determined. To qualify for the Dean's List in the College of Dentistry, students must exhibit acceptable professional behavior and have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher for that semester while carrying at least 12 hours of credit and must not have received any unsatisfactory or failing grades for that semester. the achievement of each student who qualifies for Dean's List is acknowledged and noted in the student's permanent record
