This was the eighteenth volume of the Southern Medical and Surgical Journal. The volume year ran from January 1859 to December 1859. Highlights: The conclusion of Dr. Joseph Jones’ malaria epidemiology study which began in the 1858 volume (Issues 2-4). The proceedings of a malpractice case filed in Bibb County, GA, including the testimonies of the MCG professors (Issue 2). The editorial tribute to former MCG professor George M. Newton, M.D. following his death. List of 1859 MCG Graduates and reports from the annual meetings of the Medical Association of the State of Georgia and the American Medical Association, including the Medical Teachers Convention of the AMA. Dr. William H. Doughty’s study and report regarding change of location and climate for “Consumptives” (Issues 5-8 and 11-12). Editorial notes regarding changes in contemporary medical journals (pp. 572-75).
