      7.01 Academic Leave Policy: Faculty at Georgia Health Sciences University, from the Corps of Instruction, 'Nith greater than five years of continuous full-time employment, are eligible to apply for fully funded academic leave for the purpose of professional development and promoting scholarly work. Academic leave should last no longer than twelve months. This policy describes the process and procedures for applying for academic leave, either with or without pay.

      4.02 Academic Standing Policy: Georgia Health Science University maintains required academic standards of performance for its students. This policy describes those academic standards and the courses of action that can occur when these academic standards are not met. These include Academic Probation, Academic Dismissal, and Academic Suspension. This policy applies to students in all undergraduate programs at Georgia Health Sciences University. It should be noted however, that departments may apply more stringent academic standards than are outlined in this policy.       4.03 Adding and Dropping Courses: Addition of courses to a student's course schedule will not be allowed after the deadline for adding courses as set forth in the Academic Calendar. A course may be dropped without penalty up to the midterm date set forth in the Academic Calendar. Following this deadline, a student who drops a course will receive a grade of WF (Withdrew Failing) except in cases of hardship as determined by the appropriate academic dean. WF grades will be treated as F grades for grade point calculations. Courses may be added or dropped only by procedures established by the Registrar of Georgia Health Sciences University

      4.04 Auditing Classes Policy: Regularly enrolled students of Georgia Health Sciences University may register for courses as auditors. No academic credit shall be awarded to students enrolled on this basis. No changes from audit basis to credit or from credit basis to audit will be permitted after the last day of the drop/add period. Students auditing courses will be required to pay regular fees for enrollment. Courses taken as audits do not count toward financial aid eligibility

      2.03 Awarding of Honorary Degrees Policy:Georgia Health Sciences University, as a research university within the University System, may confer up to two honorary degrees per year.Recipients, who must be present to receive the degree, will be honored with a Doctor of Science degree, which will be conferred during the May commencement ceremony. Criteria for an honorary degree are an extraordinary contribution to Georgia Health Sciences University or extraordinary contribution in the area(s) of health care, health education, or medical science. This policy outlines the steps for selection of individuals for an honorary degree at Georgia Health Sciences University. Nominations for an honorary degree will be submitted to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost by faculty or Student Government Association. A Review Committee will select several candidates to forward to the President, who will submit one or two names to the Chancellor. The Chancellor will present these candidates to the Board of Regents for the final selection process.

      2.10 Awarding of Posthumous Degree: A posthumous degree may be awarded to a student enrolled at the time of death prior to completion of all requirements for the degree. For an undergraduate level degree, the student should have completed 85% of the requirements for the degree without any D or F grades, and must have a cumulative 2.0 grade point average. For a graduate level degree, the student should have completed 85% of course work without any D or F grades, and must have a cumulative 2.0 grade point average. For research-based graduate programs, the student should have all research for their thesis or dissertation completed.
